Stop Free Feeding

Free feeding is when you leave food in their bowl throughout the day if they don’t finish. This inhibits food drive. Having food drive is an important part of being successful in our program. We recommend feeding on a schedule with a set time limit. Give them the opportunity to eat for 15-20 minutes, if they don’t finish it, put it away and try again next mealtime. It is OKAY for them to skip a meal.

Back to the crate

We crate EVERY dog for safety reasons. We will never leave a dog to free roam in our facility unsupervised. We recommend breaking the crate back out and getting them used to it in the weeks before drop off. Feeding them in their crate, and crating them for short periods of time throughout the day will help them have an easier transition into the Board & Train lifestyle.

What to buy?

If you want to go ahead and order an elevated cot, go for it! It will make an easier transition back home once they’ve learned the commands with us. This is not required. If you already have a few dog beds laying around, this works too. We recommend a few brands here. All other training tools will be available for purchase at our training facility on your take home day.

For dogs that are working through aggression, or have a bite history we highly recommend working on muzzle conditioning prior to their stay. If you aren’t sure where to start with that, reachout and we can guide you in the right direction. There are many good resources on youtube, here is good starter video.
